At least 10 temporary shops were gutted in a massive fire that broke out in the early hours of Tuesday at Library More under Bagnan Police Station in Howrah district. The blaze reportedly began around 3:00 a.m. and quickly spread to adjoining structures, reducing the shops and their contents to ashes.
During the incident, a gas cylinder kept inside one of the temporary establishments exploded, triggering a loud blast and sparking panic among local residents. Within minutes, flames engulfed nearby stalls, intensifying the damage before emergency services could arrive.
Three fire engines were pressed into service and firefighters battled the flames for nearly two hours before bringing the situation under control. However, by then, all goods stored in the affected shops had been completely destroyed. Police have launched an investigation into the incident and detained one person for questioning as part of the preliminary probe.
